Fatal Crash in Greenville

On Friday night, a Marietta woman was killed in a one-car crash in Greenville County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Poinsett Highway near Furman University. At this time, very few details about the crash have been released, but we do know that 26-year-old Elizabeth Danielle Hudson's 2003 Honda Pilot crossed a center median and struck a tree.

Fatal Crash on NC 191

A single-vehicle crash took the life of a Henderson County man last week. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, 20-year-old Nicholas Andrew Woodring lost control of his vehicle on NC 191 near Grand View Lane last Tuesday. The vehicle ran off of the roadway and struck several trees before overturning in a wooded area. Initially thought to be missing, a friend of the family's found the vehicle in deep brush beside the roadway.

Increase in Deadly Crashes on NC Roads

Recent research from the National Safety Council suggests that roadways in North Carolina have become more deadly and dangerous over the past six months. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the number of people killed in traffic crashes in North Carolina has spiked 19 percent, while the national average has only gone up 14 percent. They also report that fatal wrecks have increased in Western North Carolina, and across the state. Ken Ulmer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reports that more people on the roads combined with gas prices could have contributed to the increase.

Fatal Crash on Smokey Park Highway

On Monday night, two people were killed in a crash on Smokey Park Highway. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, this Buncombe County head-on collision happened sometime before 9:00 p.m., in the 1500 block of Smokey Park Highway, near the Bojangles. For currently unknown reasons, a Chevrolet pickup truck pulled into the path of an oncoming antique Ford pickup truck. Davie McClure, 84 years old, and his wife Mattie were in the antique truck at the time of the crash. They both died as a result of their injuries.

Deadly Crash on I-40

On Sunday, a one-vehicle crash took the life of an Asheville woman. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-40. At this time, very few details have been released, but we do know that the sole occupant of the car, 21-year-old Patricia Joyce Terbeek, was killed in the wreck. For currently unknown reasons, the automobile drifted across three lanes. The car grazed a sign, rotated and flipped. Terbeek was ejected from the car.
