Car Flips Off of Embankment in Asheville

On Sunday night, a vehicle flipped off of an embankment in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at about 9:00 p.m. on Tunnel Road near the Econo Lodge. Very few details about this one-car crash have been released, but initial reports indicate that it may have been a case of pedal error. The driver thought he or she was hitting the brake, when in reality, they were hitting the gas pedal while the vehicle was in reverse.

Multi-Car Injury Crash in Black Mountain

On Monday night, a high-speed crash in Black Mountain left five people injured. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened at about 7:00 p.m., on East State Street in the downtown Black Mountain area. Initial reports indicate that one vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Altima, struck another vehicle at a high rate of speed at a downtown intersection. That Altima driver, Kyle Carney, was reportedly driving west on Interstate 40 when he got off on Highway 70 west. When the vehicle entered the intersection of Montreat Road and State Street at a high rate of speed, it collided with a Mazda sedan. An additional three vehicles were also struck.  

Fatal Henderson County Crash

On Saturday afternoon, there was a fatal crash in Henderson County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened at about 3:00 p.m. on Crab Creek Road, near Curtis Drive. For currently unknown reasons, a westbound Ford pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck a Chrysler head-on. The pickup truck driver, a 44-year-old man from South Carolina, was killed in the crash.

Rolling Roadblocks in Haywood County

On Sunday afternoon, law enforcement officers conducted rolling roadblocks on I-40 to clear the area of ice and snow. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, there was a multi-car crash along Waterville Road in Haywood County. Drivers were asked to avoid the area, and delays were reported.

Injury Crash on I-26

Last week, there was an injury crash on Interstate 26 in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened in the early morning hours in the westbound lanes near the I-40 and I-240 interchange. For currently unknown reasons, a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed through a guardrail. That driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries including a broken nose and a broken back. Additionally, a second driver was unable to avoid the wreckage and struck some of the debris in the roadway.

Thanksgiving Weekend Travel Safety

Officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are calling on drivers to exercise additional caution this holiday weekend. Although the Thanksgiving Holiday is typically a weekend filled with cheer, gratitude and gatherings with loved ones, it's also known for being particularly deadly on U.S. roadways. As one of the most traveled holidays of the year, roads in Asheville, North Carolina and across the nation are going to be packed.

Person Injured by Rolling Car

Earlier this week, a person was injured after trying to stop a rolling car in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Monday night at the Asheville Regional Airport. Apparently, a driver was at the airport to pick somebody up when he or she got out of the vehicle. The car was reportedly still in gear and kept rolling. Another person reportedly tried to stop the car and was injured in the process. That person was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of injuries. There has been no word on the extent of injuries, the person's current condition or the make and model of the car involved.

Multiple Crashes in Weaverville

On Monday, there were multiple crashes on Interstate 26 in Weaverville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, three crashes happened near exit 19 on I-26. There were four vehicles involved in the initial wreck, which did occur during inclement weather. The other two crashes happened in the traffic sometime after the initial wreck. At least one person was injured, but there's no word on that person's current condition or the extent of injuries involved. Motorists in the area reported heavy rain and wet roads at the time of the crash. At this time, no information has been released on whether or not any citations were made or the official causes of each of the crashes. 

Camper Trailer Crash in Asheville

On Sunday, there was a crash involving a truck and a camper trailer in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at about 1:17 p.m. Although very few details have been released, initial reports indicate that a camper trailer came unhitched from a truck around mile marker 47. The camper trailer ran off onto the shoulder of the roadway.
