Last week, there was a fatal crash on Rock Hill Road in South Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Busbee View Road at about 5:00 a.m. Initial reports indicate that an Acura automobile was headed north at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve and ran off of the roadway. The vehicle hit a boulder and flipped over. Two of occupants were not buckled up at the time of the crash, and they were both ejected. One person was killed in this crash, and two others were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. Although this crash remains under investigation, alcohol is suspected to have been a factor.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reminding motorists to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over this holiday weekend. Unfortunately, Independence Day holiday period is well known as a dangerous weekend on U.S. roadways. With an increase in injury causing and fatal crashes involving drunk drivers, law enforcement agencies in North Carolina and across the nation will be out in full force.
