Improving Pedestrian Safety in Asheville

Pedestrian Killed in Buncombe County

A pedestrian was recently struck and killed by a car in Buncombe County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened just before 6:00 a.m. on December 20, 2015. The collision occurred on U.S. 70, near Porters Cove Road. For currently unknown reasons, a car came around a curve and struck the 30-year-old pedestrian. Peter Spinney was pronounced dead on the scene. Very few details about this incident have been released, and the collision might still be under investigation with law enforcement authorities. 

Toddler Injured by Hit and Run Driver

On Saturday afternoon, a hit and run crash sent a toddler to the hospital with serious injuries. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at a residence on Woodcock Drive in Hendersonville. The child, a two-year-old, and 49-year-old Marshall Waters were in the driveway in front of a house when a driver attempted to move a Chevy Tahoe while sitting in the passenger's seat. The driver ended up backing up at a high rate of speed. 

Child Struck by Car in Greenville

On Tuesday night, a child was struck by a car in Greenville, South Carolina. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened sometime around 8:15 p.m. on Conestee Road. For currently unknown reasons, the young boy was hit while trying to cross the road. Thankfully, the driver remained on the scene, but there's no word on whether or not charges have been filed at this time. 

Fatal Hit-and-Run in Hickory

On Monday morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash near Hickory. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at around 7:00 a.m. on U.S. 321, south of Interstate 40. At this time, very little information has been released about this wreck which took the life of one person. 

Fletcher Pedestrian Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run

Law enforcement officers are still investigating the hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian on Sunday morning. The incident happened in Fletcher, on Souther Road in the Hoopers Creek area. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Brian Capps was struck and dragged by a vehicle, after leaving a party on foot. Thankfully, his friends went out looking for him. He was swiftly transported to Mission Hospital and is in an intensive care unit. 

Pedestrian Struck and Killed

On Sunday afternoon, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Kimberly Avenue. Virginia Senechal, 66 years old, was just returning from a visit to the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary. The incident happened in the 400 block of Kimberly Avenue. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, she was struck by a 29-year-old driver named Maximilian Alexander. 

Child Struck by Car on Highway 70

An 11-year-old boy is still in critical condition after being struck by a car on Highway 70 in McDowell County. The incident happened on Tuesday evening at about 8:00 p.m. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, a 15-year-old driver struck him. Reportedly, only the car's side view mirror struck him, but it was enough to send him to the hospital in critical condition. 

Pedestrian Killed Early Saturday Morning

On Saturday morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed at a South Carolina intersection. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened sometime before 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Chesnee Highway and Gossett Road in Cherokee Springs. Very little information has been released about this collision, which killed 46-year-old Doyle Burke. He was pronounced dead on the scene. At this time, there's no word on how this crash happened. Could alcohol have been a factor? Although this incident is still under investigation with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, no information has been released about the driver or any potential charges involved.
