Cement Truck Chemical Spill in Woodfin

Last week, a cement truck spilled some of its load on Interstate 26 in Woodfin. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Thursday afternoon near Mile Marker 25, between the UNC Asheville and Woodfin exits. A portion of the roadway had to be closed as crews and first responders worked the scene. This rush-hour truck spill also caused a delay on I-240 nearby. Very few details about this incident have been released, but we do know that the truck was transporting lime at the time of the crash. Initial reports indicate that there was some type of equipment failure on the truck that caused the spill. At this time, no information has been released on whether or not anybody was injured during this incident.

Chemical Spill Causes Damage to Vehicles on I-26

Unfortunately, many vehicles that drove through the scene of the spill have sustained damage. The lime, which is a caustic substance, ate into the clear coats of several vehicles and left permanent damage. Thankfully, some drivers were able to get to a car wash immediately to get the substance off of their vehicles. Anybody with a vehicle damaged by the lime spill is being asked to go into the Woodfin Police Department to file a report. The cement truck company, Hamilton Hauling, and your insurance company should then resolve the matter from there.

Trucks Hauling Hazardous Chemicals

Since some commercial trucking vehicles have to haul hazardous materials and chemicals, there are additional federal safety regulations in place to ensure spill and crash risks are minimized as much as possible. Not only can hazardous materials cause health problems to people who are exposed, they can also have a serious environmental impact to the surrounding areas and waterways. It's absolutely essential that trucking companies and truck drivers be in compliance with all state and federal safety regulations at all times.
