Pedestrian Pushing Baby Stroller Hit in Asheville

On Wednesday night, a pedestrian pushing a baby stroller was struck by a car in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened as the woman was in the crosswalk at Long Shoals near the Ingles. Very few details about this collision have been released, but initial reports indicate that the stroller and baby were not hit. The woman was transported to the hospital.

Semi Truck Crash in Polk County

Last week, there was a crash involving a semi truck in Polk County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Interstate 26 near U.S. 74. Very few details about this truck crash have been released, but initial reports indicate that all eastbound lanes near Exit 59 had to be closed as crews and first responders worked the scene. No information has been released on whether or not anybody was injured in this crash. Additionally, there has been no word on the cause of the crash, which could still be under investigation with law enforcement officials.

Chemical Spill Truck Crash on I-40

On Tuesday, a truck hauling two different types of acid crashed on I-40 in McDowell County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened late on Tuesday night, near Mile Marker 66. Very little information has been released about this truck crash, but we do know that the truck jackknifed in the roadway.

Injury Crash Involving Semi Truck on I-26 in Asheville

On Monday morning, there was a four-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-26 in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened in the eastbound lanes, between Exits 33 and 37. Very few details about this crash have been released, but we do know that three vehicles and a semi truck were involved, and the wreck resulted in a fiery blaze. Initial reports indicate that a Volkswagen Jetta hit a Chevy Silverado, and the Silverado hit a semi truck. The Silverado left the roadway, overturned and caught fire. Additionally, the Jetta struck another vehicle during the collision.

U.S. traffic deaths in 2018 top 40,000

According to the National Safety Council, 2018 is the third straight year that traffic deaths in the U.S. topped 40,000. That year additionally saw 4.5 million people in North Carolina and across the nation seriously injured in crashes: a 1 percent increase from 2017. Traffic death rates differed between states with eight states experiencing a 5.8 percent rise from 2016 to 2018.

Semi Truck Crash in Polk County

Earlier this week, there was a semi truck crash on Interstate 26 in Polk County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened just south of the Saluda exit on Monday afternoon. Very few details about this wreck have been released, but initial reports indicate that a passenger occupant vehicle and a big rig were involved. First responders rushed to the scene, where they had to extricate an occupant from the smaller vehicle.

Tractor-Trailer Crash on Highway 64

On Tuesday, there was a tractor-trailer crash on Highway 64 in Macon County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Buck Creek road, west of Highlands. Very few details about this truck crash have been released, but we do know that the truck was hauling railroad ties at the time of the wreck. Initial reports indicate that the truck driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle. The maneuver caused the load to shift, and the truck swayed and overturned into the creek.

Safety tech could reverse deadly increase in truck accidents

Advocates with Road Safe America say that speed limiters and automatic emergency brakes could cut down on the number of accidents involving commercial trucks in North Carolina or any other state. Fatal truck wrecks became more common between 2009 and 2017, according to federal data. In fact, 35,882 large truck crash victims lost their lives during that period.

Injury Crash in Asheville

Over the weekend, there was an injury crash in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Sunday night, just outside of the west end of the Beaucatcher Tunnel. Very few details have been released, but initial reports indicate that this was a one-vehicle crash. For currently unknown reasons, the vehicle ended up on its side, and there were three occupants trapped inside. All three people were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Semi Truck Crash in West Asheville

On Tuesday, there was a semi truck crash in West Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Interstate 40, near exit 44. Very few details about this crash have been released, but we do know that at least three vehicles were involved. Initial reports indicate that a fuel tank on the semi truck ruptured during the crash, and fuel spilled onto the roadway. A Hazmat unit was called to the scene to clean the spill.
