Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involving Suspected Drunk Driver

Over the weekend, one motorcycle rider was killed and another was hospitalized in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver in Fairview. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened on Saturday evening on Garren Creek Road in Fairview. Very little information about this fatal motorcycle crash has been released, but initial reports indicate that 38-year-old Robert Andy Smith's Humvee slammed head-on into a couple who were riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Judy Rector and her husband Roger were on the motorcycle at the time of the wreck. Judy was killed in the crash, and Roger was severely injured.

Although the incident remains under investigation with local law enforcement officers, the Humvee driver has been charged with driving while impaired, felony serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving and felony death by vehicle. Law enforcement officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol are expected to reconstruct the scene of the crash to continue their investigative efforts. There have been no recent updates on Roger's current condition, but he was gravely injured in the wreck.
