Child Killed in Madison County ATV Crash

Last week, a five-year-old child from Greenville, Tennessee was killed in an ATV crash in Madison County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened sometime after 6:00 p.m. in the Shelton Laurel community. First responders and crews rushed to the scene. The child, Cody Landers, was transported to Mission Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. Very few details have been released about this fatal ATV crash.

NC Officials Call for Motorcycle Safety This Fall

This fall, officials in Western North Carolina are calling on Motorcycle riders and motorists to exercise additional caution on local roadways. The leaf season is a popular time for motorcycle riders to hit the scenic roadways around Asheville. With recent motorcycle crashes happening on the Blue Ridge Parkway, rangers are reminding motorcycle riders to stay safe. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, advocates are calling on bikers to keep their eyes on the road and wear helmets. Although the beautiful fall foliage might tempt a motorist or motorcycle rider to take in the views, it's important to focus on the road. 

Motorcycle Crash on Blue Ridge Parkway

On Sunday, one person was injured in a motorcycle crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened near Graveyard Fields in Haywood County. Very little information about this motorcycle crash has been released, but we do know that one person was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. 

Fairview ATV Crash

Over the weekend, a former A.C. Reynolds High School football player was critically injured in an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) crash in Fairview. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Sunday morning at a family member's property. After the brakes reportedly went out on his ATV, 21-year-old Dakota Owenby crashed into a tree. Although very few details about the ATV wreck have been reported, but we do know that there was a passenger on the ATV at the time of the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle. The handlebars turned and impaled Owenby on impact. 

Waynesville School Bus Driver Charged With DWI

Last week, a school bus driver in Waynesville was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk while she had students onboard. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the bus driver, 46-year-old Angell Kirkpatrick Benson, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. Initial reports indicate that her Breathalyzer test showed she had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system. She was reportedly swerving on the Smoky Mountain Expressway at about 3:30 p.m. Her school bus crossed the centerline at least twice, and nearly went off of the roadway, before a pursuing officer was able to pull her over. Benson was not able to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily, and she was arrested.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Brevard

On Thursday, a motorcyclist was killed in a Brevard Crash. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened on US 276, above the Ranger Station, at about 6:00 p.m. Very few details about this crash have been released, but we do know that a small passenger car was also involved. 

Alcohol Suspected in Fatal Asheville Crash

Last week, there was a fatal crash on Rock Hill Road in South Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near Busbee View Road at about 5:00 a.m. Initial reports indicate that an Acura automobile was headed north at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve and ran off of the roadway. The vehicle hit a boulder and flipped over. Two of occupants were not buckled up at the time of the crash, and they were both ejected. One person was killed in this crash, and two others were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. Although this crash remains under investigation, alcohol is suspected to have been a factor.

Fatal Crash Involving Haywood Wagon Train

Last Friday, one person was killed and several other people were injured when a truck ran into a wagon train Haywood County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Jonathan Creek Road. Very few details about the incident have been released, but we do know that a horse had to be euthanized on the scene too. There has been no information on how or why the truck ran into the wagon train. This collision is still under investigation with the State Highway Patrol.

Pedestrian Killed Near Tunnel Road

Over the weekend, a pedestrian was found dead on Tunnel Road, under the I-240 overpass. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened between South Tunnel Road and Crocket Avenue, sometime around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. Very few details about this fatal pedestrian collision have been released, but we do know that Ryan Michael Rast died of injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. Law enforcement officials are asking anybody with information about the crash, or anybody who was travelling through the area at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday to contact the Asheville Police Department. The cause of this apparent hit-and-run crash remains under investigation.
