Deputy Injured in Henderson County Crash

Last week, a Henderson County deputy was injured in a two-car crash. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened near the intersection of Howard Gap Road and Clear Creek Road. Very few details about this wreck have been released, but we do know that the deputy's patrol car was rear-ended. The deputy was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Thankfully, that person's injuries were not described as life threatening. 

Big Rig Crash on I-40 West

On Sunday afternoon, there was a tractor-trailer crash on I-40 west. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near the Tennessee border in Haywood County. For currently unknown reasons, the truck became separated from its trailer near Clyde at Mile Marker Three. The cab of the large truck slid down the roadway for about 500 feet. The trailer was left on the shoulder of the road, and the truck's cab partially blocked the roadway. I-40 West was backed up for nearly 10 miles as crews and first responders worked the scene. At this time, there has been no word on the cause of the truck crash or whether or not anybody was injured.

Fatal Crash in Rutherford County Neighborhood

Last week, there was a fatal one-car crash in a Rutherfordton neighborhood. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened on Poors Ford Road on Tuesday evening. For currently unknown reasons, a vehicle left the roadway, overturned and crashed into a home. The SUV struck two people. James Hart and Marlene Daniel were neighbors who were in their yards at the time of the crash. Daniel was killed in the crash, and Hart was seriously injured.

Semi Truck Crash on Future I-26

On Tuesday morning, a semi truck overturned on Future I-26 westbound. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. near the Hill Street exit. Although very few details about this tractor-trailer crash have been released, we do know that a portion of the roadway was closed until about 11:00 a.m. Traffic was backed up through downtown and all the way to West Asheville. Initial reports indicate that the truck driver overcorrected the large truck, causing it to overturn. 

Car Crashes into Swannanoa Transformer

On Thursday afternoon, a car crashed into a transformer in Swannanoa. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened on Sylvester Way. Very few details have been released about this one-car crash, but we do know that the vehicle slammed into the transformer and bent the metal power box. Thankfully, no injuries were reported on the scene. 

Pedestrian Critically Injured in Canton

On Monday afternoon, a pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a car in Canton. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at about 2:00 p.m. along Highway 110. Very few details about this collision have been released, but we do know that a Jeep Cherokee struck the 40-year-old woman. She was reportedly walking along the roadside before crossing the road to join her husband. She was rushed to Mission Hospital for treatment of head trauma and other injuries. There has been no word on whether or not the driver involved is facing citations or charges. This wreck is likely still under investigation with local law enforcement authorities.

Motorcycle Injury Crash in Transylvania County

On Tuesday night, two people were injured in a crash involving a motorcycle in Transylvania County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened at Crab Creek Road and Cascade Lake road, near the Little River Baptist Church, at about 9:00 p.m. Very few details about this wreck have been released, but we do know that there was a car and a motorcycle involved.

National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) along with a variety of public safety and law enforcement agencies across the nation are raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving this month. The NHTSA's U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign will run from April 6-10, 2017. This campaign will be focused on the law enforcement efforts associated with keeping distracted drivers off of the roads. They will be running paid media campaigns from April 3-10, 2017. The target audience of this year's campaign is men and women ages 18 through 34 years old.
