Multi-Car Injury Crash in Black Mountain

On Monday night, a high-speed crash in Black Mountain left five people injured. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the wreck happened at about 7:00 p.m., on East State Street in the downtown Black Mountain area. Initial reports indicate that one vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Altima, struck another vehicle at a high rate of speed at a downtown intersection. That Altima driver, Kyle Carney, was reportedly driving west on Interstate 40 when he got off on Highway 70 west. When the vehicle entered the intersection of Montreat Road and State Street at a high rate of speed, it collided with a Mazda sedan. An additional three vehicles were also struck.

Five Injured in Black Mountain Crash

Debris was littered across the intersection in downtown Black Mountain, and the storefront of Town Hardware on State Street sustained extensive damage. At least five people were injured in the crash. The Altima driver, Kyle Carney, was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The Mazda driver was also rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. There has been no word on their current conditions or the extent of injuries involved. Other injured victims were treated on the scene. Kyle Carney is reportedly facing charges associated with reckless and careless driving.

Speeding and Aggressive Driving

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding killed 9,262 people in 2014. Speeding was a contributing factor in 28 percent of all fatal crashes that year. If you're speeding, you have a greater likelihood of losing control of your vehicle. Also, the degree of severity of a potential crash is also greatly increased. Speeding and other forms of aggressive driving put lives at risk for injury causing and potentially fatal crashes.
