Tractor Trailer Crash on I-40

Earlier this week, there was a semi truck crash on I-40 in Haywood County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened in a westbound lane near Fines Creek Road in Clyde. Very few details about this big rig crash have been released, but we do know that a portion of the roadway had to be closed, and traffic was backed up until after 8:00 p.m. 

National Teen Driver Safety Week

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) observed National Teen Driver Safety Week, which ran from October 16-22. Since car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens between the ages of 15 and 19 years old, the issue of teen driver safety is a top priority for federal, state and local public safety agencies across the nation. In 2014, 2,679 teen drivers were involved in fatal crashes, and an estimated 123,000 teens were injured in motor vehicle crashes. The NHTSA is encouraging parents and caregivers to talk to their children about the unique dangers facing teens behind the wheel. 

Tractor Trailer Crash on I-26

Last week, there was a crash involving two semi trucks on Interstate 26. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened in the westbound lanes, near mile marker 66. At this time, very few details about the crash have been released, we do know that a portion of the roadway had to be closed as first responders and crews worked the scene. There has been no word on whether or not anybody was injured in this truck crash. 

Person Injured by Rolling Car

Earlier this week, a person was injured after trying to stop a rolling car in Asheville. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened on Monday night at the Asheville Regional Airport. Apparently, a driver was at the airport to pick somebody up when he or she got out of the vehicle. The car was reportedly still in gear and kept rolling. Another person reportedly tried to stop the car and was injured in the process. That person was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of injuries. There has been no word on the extent of injuries, the person's current condition or the make and model of the car involved.

New NC Bike Law

On October 1st, a new bike law went into effect for North Carolina. WLOS ABC News Channel 13 reported on the recent change in the North Carolina law, and as of October 1, 2016, it will no longer be illegal for a driver to cross the centerline to pass a person on a bicycle, as long as there is an assured clear distance ahead and no oncoming traffic. This means, drivers are now able to freely go around cyclists, as long as it is safe to do so. Additionally, the new law also states that motorists must give cyclists at least four feet of distance when passing, instead of two feet.

Semi Truck Crash on I-85

Last week, a semi truck crashed on Interstate 85 in Greenville County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened near the ramp to Woodruff Road and I-385. Very few details of the truck crash have been released, but we do know that a portion of I-385 North and I-85 South had to be closed as crews and first responders worked the scene. At this time, there has been no word on how the large tractor-trailer overturned in the roadway. Injuries were reported in the crash, but no information has been released on the extent of injuries involved or on anybody's current condition.
