Fatal Crash in Candler

On Monday afternoon, a fatal crash in Candler took the life of 15-year-old Christopher Taylor. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the one-car collision happened at Reeves Cove Road. Law enforcement officials report that the driver, another teen, lost control of the vehicle, over corrected and then struck a tree. Taylor was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. No charges have been filed, but the wreck remains under investigation. 

Another Crash on I-26

Another crash involving an overturned vehicle happened on I-26. Earlier this week, we reported on the semi truck that overturned in Polk County. This time, the vehicle in question was a SUV. The incident happened at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, in the eastbound lanes, near the exit for Brevard Road. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, at least two people were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Very little information about this crash has been released. 

Overturned Semi Truck in Polk County

On Tuesday afternoon, an overturned 18-wheeler had traffic backed up in Polk County. The incident happened on I-26 near the Saluda exit (exit 59). According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the big rig was hauling water when it blew a tire. Apparently, the rig struck the overpass and then overturned. First responders were swiftly on the scene, where at least one person was trapped by the wreckage. Crews also had to deal with a fuel spill. One person was taken to Pardee Hospital. 

Moped Crash in East Flat Rock

Earlier this week, a crash involving a moped in East Flat Rock sent two people to the hospital. The collision happened on Spartanburg Highway (Highway 176), near the General Electric plant. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, a Lincoln struck a moped sometime before 9:00 a.m. The Moped went flying into pared cars and caught fire. The Lincoln rolled down the street and struck a power pole. 

Pedestrian Struck and Killed

On Sunday afternoon, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Kimberly Avenue. Virginia Senechal, 66 years old, was just returning from a visit to the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary. The incident happened in the 400 block of Kimberly Avenue. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, she was struck by a 29-year-old driver named Maximilian Alexander. 

Child Struck by Car on Highway 70

An 11-year-old boy is still in critical condition after being struck by a car on Highway 70 in McDowell County. The incident happened on Tuesday evening at about 8:00 p.m. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, a 15-year-old driver struck him. Reportedly, only the car's side view mirror struck him, but it was enough to send him to the hospital in critical condition. 

DWI Crackdown in Asheville

Police officers in Ashville and Buncombe County deputies are working together on a joint task force in efforts to reduce alcohol-impaired accidents in the area. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Buncombe County has received a $700,000 grant to help stop drunk driving. Some of that money will fund a mobile breath alcohol testing unit to various checkpoints around the county. 

Fatal High-Speed Chase in Hendersonville

Earlier this week, a high-speed chase in Hendersonville left one man dead and two other people in the hospital. The chase happened on Interstate 26, when troopers attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, 48-year-old Allen Goodman of Florida took the troopers on a high-speed chase through Hendersonville. 

Fatal Wreck in Hendersonville

On Sunday morning, a wreck on Highway 25 took the life of one person. The crash happened near Tuxedo, and the driver of the car has been charged with felony hit and run and DWI. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, Angel Diaz was driving when he lost control of his car and slid sideways into a guardrail. The impact killed the passenger, but Diaz didn't stop driving. He drove the damaged car north for about 10 miles before stopping on I-26, by the Upward Road Overpass. Diaz then fled the scene on foot and reportedly got into a friend's car. Authorities found his car with the body the passenger, Luiz Ruiz, inside.
