Multiple Tractor Trailer Crashes on I-40

On Wednesday afternoon, parts of I-40 had to be shut down after multiple wrecks. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, there were two jackknifed semi trucks involved. The first crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. on I-40 West at the Crooked Creek Bridge. A big rig jackknifed, and a chain-reaction crash followed behind it. 

Logging Truck Wreck on Highway 25

Last week, a logging truck and a fuel tanker nearly collided on Highway 25. The near-collision caused the logging truck to spill its contents across the roadway. Traffic was backed up for hours. The incident happened in Greenville, South Carolina on Highway 25 North. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the driver of the logging truck tried to go around a small trailer that was turning right off of the highway, but he didn't know that his left lane wasn't clear. There was a larger taker truck hauling ethanol in the other lane. He reportedly never hit his breaks, but did strike the smaller trailer rather than hit the large tanker truck. Enormous logs were spilled all over the roadway. Thankfully, he didn't hit the fully-loaded fuel tanker. The wreck could have been a lot worse. 

One-Car Rollover Crash in Haywood County

On Wednesday afternoon, a one-car crash had traffic backed up on I-40 West in Haywood County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the automobile rolled over and ended up blocking the right lane. The wreck happened at about 4:00 p.m. close to the Tennessee state line. Very little information has been released about this crash, which only involved one vehicle. 

Workers Injured by Gas Leak

On Monday, a huge gas leak injured at least three workers in Anderson County. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the gas leak happened at a distribution center. Apparently, work crews were performing routine maintenance on a 27-inch main distribution line when it burst. Gas was reportedly shooting more than 100 feet in the air. Three workers were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Emergency responders were swiftly on the scene pouring a foam blanket over the area. Thankfully, they were able to prevent the further danger of a possible explosion. Anderson County citizens within a half mile of the leak were asked to take shelter in place while first responders contained the situation. 

Oversized Load and Lost Cargo on I-26

On Monday afternoon, a large truck hauling an oversized load lost its cargo on I-26. The incident happened just past the Long Shoals Road exit on I-26 West. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, a mobile home that the truck was hauling slid of the trailer during transport. Traffic was delayed between the Fletcher exit and the Brevard Road exit until about 6:00 p.m. 

Fatal Motorcycle Wreck in Black Mountain

On Monday night, a crash involving an SUV took the life of a motorcycle rider in Black Mountain. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, the wreck happened at about 8:45 p.m. An SUV turned directly in front of a motorcycle. The SUV was attempting to get on I-40 East from Dunsmore Avenue. Later that night, the motorcycle rider, 28-year-old William Fox, died at Mission Hospital. WLOS News did report that charges were pending against the SUV driver. 

Fatal Crash on I-26

On Tuesday, one person was killed in a wreck that happened on I-26, near the Long Shoals exit, in Asheville. The wreck happened just before 4:45 p.m. According to WLOS ABC Channel 13 News, state troopers believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash. Witness reports indicate that a Subaru was travelling at high speeds. The Subaru hit a pickup truck while trying to maneuver between the truck and a tractor trailer.
