Jackknifed Tractor Trailer in Buncombe County

Over the weekend, a semi truck jackknifed on a Buncombe County roadway. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, the incident happened sometime after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday night. The tractor-trailer jackknifed in the eastbound lanes of I-26 near mile marker 21, near New Stock Road. Very little information about this truck crash has been released, but we do know that a significant portion of guardrail was taken out during the wreck. Although the cause of this truck crash is still under investigation with local law enforcement authorities, initial reports indicate that the truck driver may have been traveling too fast for the conditions.

Buncombe County Semi Truck Crash

Law enforcement investigators are looking into whether or not the truck hydroplaned before crashing into the guardrail and jackknifing in the roadway. Thankfully, the driver was not injured in this apparent one-vehicle truck crash. There has been no word on charges or citations at this time, but a portion of I-26 did remain closed until almost midnight as crews and first responders worked the scene and repaired the damaged guardrail.

Truck Accident Investigations

Since commercial trucks are so much larger and heavier than other passenger occupant vehicles, drivers, trucks and trucking companies have additional rules and regulations to comply with. After a truck accident, it's essential to determine if trucks, trucking companies and drivers were in full compliance with all federal safety regulations. In addition to the traditional rules of the road, truck drivers have to follow a variety of regulations involving hours of service and other safe driving behaviors.

Asheville Truck Accident Lawyer

When smaller passenger occupant vehicles are involved in crashes with large commercial vehicles, the consequences can be devastating. Commercial vehicles can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, and it's essential to determine exactly what factors contributed the crash, so investigations can be lengthy and time consuming.
