Speeding in Asheville

Residents in a Fairview neighborhood are concerned about speeding drivers this summer. According to WLOS ABC News Channel 13, Spring Lake Drive, a dead-end road in a residential area, is notorious for speeders. Although the speed limit is posted at 25 miles per hour and there is also a "Children at Play" sign, drivers routinely speed through the area. One family recalled a near miss involving a speeding and possibly distracted driver. With school out, families are hoping to walks around the neighborhood safely with their children. At least one concerned citizen has raised the issue with local law enforcement, although we understand her phone calls haven't been returned.

Aggressive Driving in Asheville

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors put motorists and other roadway users in and around Asheville at great risk. Whether you're on the highway or in a residential neighborhood, observing and obeying the speed limit is absolutely essential to keeping roadways safe. It's important to note that drivers should also be ready to adjust their speed for weather conditions. Sometimes, the posted limit is too fast for safe navigation of the roadway. Always drive at a speed which is safe for the current weather conditions you're experiencing.

"Speed Shatters Life"

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) "Speed Shatters Life" campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of driving too fast for conditions or exceeding posted speed limits. In addition to educational tools for motorists, the NHTSA also hopes to support law enforcement efforts to reduce speeding across the country. Listed below are just a few consequences of driving with excessive speed.
