ASHEVILLE, NC (August 1, 2015) - For 2015, Davis Law Group is awarding five $500 scholarships to students and/or teachers at several local public schools. To qualify for the scholarship, the student or teacher must develop a plan that will educate other students and other community members about the dangers of texting and driving, and thereby reduce the incidence of texting and driving in our community. The goal of this scholarship program is to make our community's streets and highways safer.

The texting and driving education plan must be reduced to writing in the form of an essay and include 1) the applicant's reason for wanting to participate in this program, 2) a detailed, step-by-step description of how the applicant intends to implement the plan, 3) the projected timeline for the plan, and 4) explain why the scholarship money is needed to implement the plan. Students and teachers from the following schools are eligible to apply:

  • Evergreen Community Charter School
  • Isaac Dickson Elementary School
  • Jones Elementary School
  • Enka Middle School
  • Enka High School
  • Asheville Middle School
  • Asheville High School
  • TC Roberson High School
  • Reynolds High School
  • Owen High School
  • UNC-Asheville
  • AB - Technical Community College

The five students and/or teachers who come up with the best plans to educate students and adults about the dangers of texting and driving will be awarded a $500 scholarship. All scholarship funds must be used to implement the education plan regarding the dangers of texting and driving. Scholarships awarded to students under age 18, will be delivered to the care of the student's parent. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2015.

In addition to writing an essay, students are also encouraged to create presentations using videos, brochures, PowerPoint and web design to compete for these coveted scholarships.

To qualify, students must return the 2015 application packet to Davis Law Group by October 15, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded based on the student's submission, letters of recommendation, community service initiatives and extracurricular activities. Winners will be announced on November 15, 2015.
